News Roundup: November 2019

As awards season begins to descend and two of our shows have hit US screens, this month has been a busy one. Have a look at what’s been going on:

1) Back to Life gets renewed for a 2nd Season

#BacktoLife, starring and co-created by Daisy Haggard, has been renewed for a second season for All3Media International, BBC Three and Showtime Networks! Series 2 will continue to follow the life of Miri Matteson, a female ex-con, as she adjusts to normality outside of prison. The series will shoot next year, with series 1 exec producers Sarah Hammond, Jack and Harry Williams on board with Haggard and co-writer Laura Solon.

Why not also check out Daisy’s interview with Scroobius Pip on his podcast, Distraction Pieces, here.

2) Back to Life and Cheat hit US screens!

BBCThree’s Back to Life and ITV’s #Cheat have both had US premieres this month to great success! Back to Life, streaming on Sunday nights on Showtime Networks has been a hit from the outset:

Back to Life’s Homecoming Tale Finds the Sweet Spot Between Melancholy and Comedy’ - Vulture

‘A real unexpected gem of a series’ – Hollywood Reporter

‘The mystery is interesting as an unsolved case, but far more compelling as a framework for how people can get frozen in time, stuck in their own beliefs and habits until something finally has to give’ - Variety

Gaby Hull’s excruciatingly tense thriller, which aired on ITV in March this year, is now available on AMC’s streaming service Sundance Now weekly on Thursday evenings.

‘Cheat is an excellent reason to get Sundance Now, now’ - Primetimer

3) Awards

Congratulations to Isobel Waller-Bridge who made it into the top 3 for Best Original Music at the #RTSCraftAwards for her breathtaking score for #Fleabag Series 2. Her choral soundtrack is now available for streaming on Spotify.

Fleabag has also garnered a number of nominations for upcoming awards including Best Comedy at the #BroadcastAwards2020, and Best Returning Comedy-Drama and Best Individual Performance (Phoebe Waller-Bridge) at the #C21InternationalDramaAwards. Back to Life is also nominated for Best Comedy-Drama at the C21 Awards, which will take place 5th December 2019.

Fingers crossed!
